The Combined Hand Surgery Fellowship is structured to provide advanced training in reconstructive hand surgery. Key faculty are fellowship trained Hand Surgeons - two board certified in orthopedics and one board certified in plastic surgery. Additional faculty are drawn from the department of orthopedics and the division of plastic surgery at Hartford Hospital. There is extensive experience in post-traumatic, degenerative, and congenital reconstructive surgery. Surgery is performed daily with an aggregate of 2,000 cases per year.
Exposure to the management of acute hand trauma, including replantation is provided through emergency coverage of Hartford Hospital and the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. Fellows supervise the weekly Hartford Hospital Hand Clinic and are responsible for all surgical procedures scheduled in this setting. There is a daily surgical conference, a weekly formal conference, and bi-weekly, monthly and quarterly journal clubs. Ample time for research activity is provided. The fellowship generates several publications per year. The University of Connecticut Hand Surgery Fellowship is a one year, ACGME accredited program.
