Application Information

All applicants who wish to apply to our ACGME accredited fellowship program are done through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service). The University participates in the National Residency Match Program (NRMP). If you have any questions about the fellowship, you may call 860-679-3605. The University of Connecticut only sponsors J-1 visas for those applicants who are not permanent residents or US citizens. The University of Connecticut does not accept H1 visas. You may start the application process in July. The Rheumatology Division interviews occur August – October, on Wednesdays.

All applications should include:

  1. A completed ERAS form
  2. Personal Statement
  3. Photograph
  4. Medical School Transcript
  5. Dean’s letter
  6. USMLE Part 1, 2 and 3 or Complex Part 1, 2 and 3
  7. 3 Current letters of Recommendations
  8. Valid ECFMG Certificate for foreign medical school graduates

Fellowship Eligibility and Selection

Fellowship Eligibility


Applicants with the following qualifications are eligible for appointment to the fellowship program:

a. Graduates of residency programs accredited by ACGME

And one of the following criteria below:

b. Graduates of medical schools in the United States and Canada accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).

c. Graduates of colleges of osteopathic medicine in the United States accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).

d. Graduates of medical schools outside the United States and Canada who meet one of the following qualifications:

  1. Have received a currently valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates prior to appointment, or,

e. Graduates of medical schools outside the United States who have completed a Fifth Pathway program provided by an LCME-accredited medical school.

H1 visas for fellowships are not supported by the University of Connecticut Health Center.

Fellowship Selection

a. Fellowship Selection is based on the applicant’s preparedness, ability, aptitude, academic credentials, communication skills, and personal qualities such as motivation and integrity. b. In selecting from among qualified applicants, this fellowship program participates in an organized matching program, the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).
